Cleansing & Exfoliation Techniques: The Foundation for Minimizing Pores

Large pores and uneven texture are among the most common skin concerns—and often, the simplest yet most effective solutions lie in daily cleansing and exfoliation. When done correctly, these steps help clear debris, regulate sebum, and keep skin looking refined and healthy.

Why Cleansing Matters

Your pores naturally produce oil (sebum) that helps protect and hydrate the skin. But when oil mixes with impurities, pollution, or leftover makeup, it can become trapped—stretching pores and making them more visible. A proper cleansing routine is the first defense against this cycle.

Best Practices for Cleansing:

  • Double Cleanse: Begin with an oil-based cleanser to dissolve sunscreen, makeup, and excess sebum, followed by a gentle water-based cleanser to sweep away residue.

  • Choose Non-Comedogenic Formulas: Look for natural cleansers enriched with botanical waters (like lavender, rose, or tea tree) that respect the skin barrier without clogging pores.

  • Consistency Is Key: Washing your face morning and evening prevents buildup and keeps pores clear.

The Power of Exfoliation

While cleansing removes impurities, exfoliation targets the buildup of dead skin cells that can block pores and lead to dullness. The goal isn’t to strip the skin, but to encourage healthy cell turnover.

Types of Exfoliation:

  1. Chemical Exfoliation

    • AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) like glycolic or lactic acid dissolve bonds between dead skin cells, brightening the surface and smoothing texture.

    • BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids) such as salicylic acid penetrate deeper into pores to clear sebum, making them especially effective for oily and acne-prone skin.

    • PHAs (Polyhydroxy Acids) are gentler options for sensitive skin, offering hydration and mild exfoliation without irritation.

  2. Enzymatic Exfoliation

    • Plant-derived enzymes from papaya, pineapple, or pumpkin work like natural “pac-men,” digesting dead cells in a mild yet effective way. Perfect for those who prefer a softer approach.

  3. Physical Exfoliation (Use with Caution)

    • While scrubs with natural beads can help, harsh physical exfoliants often cause microtears. If you prefer physical exfoliation, opt for gentle, eco-friendly alternatives and limit use.

Finding the Balance

Over-exfoliation can weaken the barrier and cause inflammation—leading to redness, sensitivity, or even more oil production. The sweet spot is typically 2–3 times per week for chemical exfoliation, depending on your skin type.

Pair exfoliation with hydrating and barrier-repairing ingredients such as:

  • Hyaluronic Acid (multi-molecular forms plump the skin at every layer)

  • Niacinamide (regulates oil and strengthens barrier function)

  • Botanical Extracts like calendula and centella (calm and repair after exfoliation)

The Laleva Natural Approach

At Laleva Natural, our pore-refining products are designed with this balance in mind. By blending organic floral waters (rose, lavender, chamomile), natural, cosmos approved, patented, scientifically proven AHA complex, natural BHA , enzymatic ferments (papaya, willow bark), and hydrating and exfoliating botanicals, our formulations gently lift impurities and encourage renewal while keeping the skin barrier strong.

Every formula is biochemistry-driven, working across skin layers to refine texture, minimize pore visibility, and promote long-term clarity—without harshness.
