                                    Understanding Your Skin Type

NORMAL SKIN

WHAT IT MEANS
How it feels:
Special considerations:
Best care for normal skin:
What we recommend at Laleva Natural
WHAT IT MEANS
Balanced oil (sebum) and hydration levels.

Even texture, minimal visible pores, and a radiant, healthy look.

Rarely experiences breakouts or irritation.
How it feels:
Soft, smooth, not too oily or dry—usually comfortable all day.
Special considerations:
Even though it’s “low-maintenance,” normal skin still needs care to maintain balance.

Sun exposure, stress, or harsh products can still disrupt its equilibrium.
Best care for normal skin:
Lightweight hydration: floral waters (rose, lavender) and sodium hyaluronate to keep skin fresh.

Antioxidant support: Coenzyme Q10, vitamin C derivatives, or algae extracts to prevent premature aging.

Gentle maintenance: botanical actives to protect the barrier and maintain glow.

DRY SKIN

WHAT IT MEANS
How it feels:
Special considerations:
Best care for normal skin:
What we recommend at Laleva Natural
WHAT IT MEANS
Insufficient sebum and lipid production.

Lacks both water and oils needed for barrier health.

Prone to flaking, tightness, and fine lines.
How it feels:
Tight, rough, sometimes itchy; may become red or irritated, especially in cold weather.
Special considerations:
Without proper lipids, the barrier weakens, leading to faster moisture loss.

Aging naturally decreases oil production, so dry skin is more common later in life.
Best care for normal skin:
Deep hydration: multi-molecular hyaluronic acid, saccharide isomerate.

Barrier-repairing lipids: ceramide complexes, jojoba oil, moringa oil, shea butter.

Soothing botanicals: calendula, chamomile, aloe vera to calm irritation.

Overnight care: richer textures like retinol serum with squalane and peptides.
What we recommend at Laleva Natural
Lightweight hydration: floral waters (rose, lavender) and sodium hyaluronate to keep skin fresh.

Antioxidant support: Coenzyme Q10, vitamin C derivatives, or algae extracts to prevent premature aging.

Gentle maintenance: botanical actives to protect the barrier and maintain glow.

OILY SKIN

WHAT IT MEANS
How it feels:
Special considerations:
Best care for normal skin:
What we recommend at Laleva Natural
WHAT IT MEANS
Sebaceous glands produce excess oil.

More prone to clogged pores, blackheads, and breakouts.

Pores often appear larger due to oil buildup and loss of elasticity.
How it feels:
Greasy shine, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin). Makeup may “slide off.”
Special considerations:
Oily skin ages more slowly, with fewer fine lines.

Balance—not stripping—is key. Harsh products make it oilier.
Best care for normal skin:
Natural exfoliants: willow bark extract (natural salicylic acid), fruit AHAs.

Balancing botanicals: tea tree water, centella asiatica, meadowsweet.

Lightweight hydration: aloe vera, glycerin, floral waters.

Oil control: niacinamide regulates sebum while strengthening the barrier.

COMBINATION SKIN

WHAT IT MEANS
How it feels:
Special considerations:
Best care for normal skin:
What we recommend at Laleva Natural
WHAT IT MEANS
A mix of dry and oily areas—commonly oily T-zone and dry cheeks.

Needs targeted, balanced care.
How it feels:
Some areas may feel greasy while others feel tight or rough.
Special considerations:
One-size-fits-all products often don’t work well.

Multi-tasking formulations or layering products can help.
Best care for normal skin:
Dual-action products: AHA/BHA serums to refine pores without overdrying.

Hydrating botanicals: rose, chamomile, calendula for balance.

Barrier repair: ceramides, plant oils in light, non-comedogenic textures.

Smart targeting: clarifying mask for T-zone, hydrating cream for cheeks.

SENSITIVE SKIN

WHAT IT MEANS
How it feels:
Special considerations:
Best care for normal skin:
What we recommend at Laleva Natural
WHAT IT MEANS
Skin that reacts quickly to external factors (fragrance, harsh actives, pollution, stress).

Can be genetic or caused by barrier dysfunction.

Linked with conditions like rosacea, eczema, or chronic redness.
How it feels:
Easily irritated, with redness, burning, stinging, or rashes.
Special considerations:
Sensitive skin doesn’t always mean “allergic.”

Over-exfoliation, pollution, and synthetic chemicals often worsen sensitivity.
Best care for normal skin:
Minimal essential oils: lavender, chamomile, neroli—used at calming, low levels.

Barrier-strengthening actives: centella asiatica, oat extract, saccharide isomerate.

Soothing hydration: aloe vera, panthenol, mushroom extracts.

Avoid harsh irritants: synthetic fragrances, drying alcohols, aggressive acids.
What we recommend at Laleva Natural

Antioxidant support: Coenzyme Q10, vitamin C derivatives, or algae extracts to prevent premature aging.

Gentle maintenance: botanical actives to protect the barrier and maintain glow.

WHY IT MATTERS
Understanding your skin type is the first step to healthy, radiant skin. Each type requires a unique approach:

Dry skin needs deep hydration and barrier lipids.

Oily skin benefits from natural exfoliation and oil regulation.

Sensitive skin craves soothing, protective care.

Combination skin thrives on balance.

Normal skin still requires maintenance to preserve its harmony.

At Laleva Natural, we design each formula with biochemistry-driven actives that respect these differences—botanical waters for hydration, natural acids for clarity, peptides for structure, and aromatherapeutic oils for wellbeing.

                                         Skin Layers & Their Role

Epidermis – The Protective Shield

What it is:
The outermost layer of skin, made up of tightly packed keratinocytes.

Contains the stratum corneum, your first line of defense against the outside world.

Constantly renews itself through cell turnover (about every 28 days).
Main functions:
Acts as a barrier against pollution, microbes, and toxins.

Supports skin healing and repair through circulation and nutrients.

Houses sebaceous (oil) and sweat glands that connect to the surface via pores.
Key Cells:
Keratinocytes – The most common skin cells. They produce keratin, a structural protein that makes skin tough, resilient, and water-resistant. As keratinocytes mature, they migrate upward to form the stratum corneum, eventually shedding naturally.

Melanocytes – Found in the basal layer of the epidermis, they produce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color and protects DNA from UV damage.

Where Skincare Meets Science :
Exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs): remove dead cells and unclog pores (e.g., Willow Bark Extract as a natural salicylic acid).                                  Brightening agents (vitamin C derivatives, tranexamic acid, licorice extract): even tone and fade discoloration.
Hydrators (aloe vera, saccharide isomerate, hyaluronic acid): prevent water loss and smooth texture.

Dermis – The Structural Core
What it is:
The middle layer beneath the epidermis.

Rich in collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and blood vessels.

Contains fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen) and immune cells.
Main functions:
Provides firmness, elasticity, and resilience.

Supports skin healing and repair through circulation and nutrients.

Houses sebaceous (oil) and sweat glands that connect to the surface via pores.
Key Cells:
FibroblastsThe architects of your skin. They produce collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which give skin firmness, elasticity, and hydration. Over time, fibroblasts slow down, leading to wrinkles and sagging.

Immune cells – Like mast cells and macrophages, they respond to injury or inflammation, influencing skin sensitivity and healing.

Where Skincare Meets Science :
Peptides (e.g., Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5): stimulate collagen synthesis and improve elasticity.

Retinoids and bio-retinol alternatives (e.g., Retinyl Linoleate, Bakuchiol, Ursolic Acid): signal fibroblasts to repair and renew.

Niacinamide & antioxidants (CoQ10, algae extracts): reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, and strengthen dermal structure.

Hyaluronic acid (multi-molecular): replenishes hydration deeper in the dermis for plumping and smoothing.

Hypodermis – The Cushioning Layer
What it is:
The deepest layer, made of fat cells and connective tissue.

Links skin to muscles and bones, acting as structural support.
Main functions:
Provides cushioning and insulation for the body.

Stores energy and supports circulation of nutrients to the upper layers.

Helps maintain facial contours and firmness.
Key Cells:
Adipocytes (fat cells) – Provide cushioning, insulation, and help maintain youthful facial contours.

Fibroblasts extend into this layer as well, supporting deeper structural proteins.
Where skincare indirectly works here:
Firming actives (lupine protein, plant collagen, peptides) help maintain volume by protecting collagen and elastin.

Lipid-replenishing oils (jojoba, moringa, borage) reinforce the structure and resilience of the hypodermis.

Lifestyle habits (hydration, diet, face massage, exercise) preserve the health of this layer, preventing sagging and loss of definition.
